The Finance for Biodiversity Foundation (FfB) has launched a new, first-of-its-kind Biodiversity Data Catalogue, an exclusive resource for members designed to address one of the most pressing challenges facing the finance sector: identifying high-quality, decision-useful biodiversity data and the providers behind them.
Why the Finance for Biodiversity Data Catalogue?
Recent findings from FfB’s Impact Report highlight the scale of the issue, with 44% of respondents identifying limited access to quality data as the leading barrier to advancing biodiversity integration, and 39% reporting difficulties in measuring impact. As financial institutions increasingly seek to understand and manage nature-related risks and opportunities, the lack of clear, comparable and accessible data continues to slow progress.
What is the Biodiversity Data Catalogue?
The Biodiversity Data Catalogue has been developed to bridge this gap by improving visibility and accessibility across the rapidly expanding nature data landscape. It provides a structured overview of nearly 2,000 biodiversity-related data points from 25 data providers and tool developers, covering both open-access and subscription-based sources. With close to 30 filtering options, users can efficiently identify relevant data aligned with their specific use cases, asset classes and decision-making needs.
By enabling financial institutions to more easily navigate available data and connect with providers, the catalogue supports more informed and consistent integration of biodiversity into investment and risk management processes. Rather than hosting datasets directly, the platform acts as a central catalogue, allowing users to identify datapoints and engage with the most relevant data providers to obtain them.
As the demand for robust biodiversity data continues to grow, this initiative marks an important step in supporting the finance sector’s transition toward nature-positive outcomes.
The Data Catalogue is available exclusively to FfB members and Hub participants – find out how to access via the FfB platform.
