Research Associate – Biodiversity & Finance

About the role
In this role, you will join the Finance for Biodiversity (FfB) Foundation team supporting financial institutions in contributing to halting and reversing nature loss this decade.
On a day-to-day basis, you will assist and contribute to the activities of the Engagement with Companies working group, Nature Action 100 Technical Advisory Group & Science Council and the collaborative textile sector investor engagement initiative FABRIC. Additionally, you will support analyses and research on companies and sectors and their impacts and dependencies on nature.
You will work closely with and report to the Director of Engagement and Research of FfB Foundation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical and research support and project management assistance for the Engagement with Companies Working Group, the FABRIC initiative and the Nature Action 100 Technical Advisory Group.
- Assist with developing technical materials, analyses, sector-specific research and other deliverables.
- Conduct research and stay updated on emerging frameworks, methodologies, tools, and datasets related to nature and stewardship activities.
- Support and organise working group meetings, FABRIC investor engagement meetings and meetings of the Nature Action 100 Technical Advisory Group and Science Council.
Skills and experience
We seek candidates with expertise in biodiversity, nature, or environmental sciences and experience in the finance sector. The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and skills:
Essential
- Ability to work online, collaboratively and independently in a high-performing remote team.
- Structured, results-focused, and efficient, with a self-starting attitude and the ability to work accurately at a fast pace.
- Understanding the interplay between biodiversity and the finance sector, including knowledge of the relationship between businesses and biodiversity.
- Proficiency in English, with excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
- Between 2 and 5 years of working experience.
- Passion for contributing to sustainability and nature recovery.
Desirable
The successful candidate is likely to possess one or more of the following:
- Experience of working with or in the finance sector.
- Experience of investment stewardship activities or other forms of related company engagement.
- Prior experience in, or familiarity with, the biodiversity landscape, including key stakeholders, associated nature challenges, and nature-based solutions.
- Currently pursuing or possessing a master’s degree in a relevant environmental field.
Contract
- Initial one-year fixed-term contract with the potential for continued employment
- Salary range between €45.000 – €55.000 (Fulltime and Netherlands benchmark; localised based on cost of living)
- Remote working. Option to work full-time or a 4-day week
