HOST: Finance for Biodiversity Foundation

VENUE: Talin Room, Blue Zone – Yerevan, Armenia

PARTNERS: Collaboracion Civica

FORMAT: Official side-event

DESCRIPTION

Financial institutions can play an important role as a third-party stakeholder in supporting the success of the UN Cali Fund. As part of their relationships with clients and companies, they can express concern and interest for fair and equitable benefit sharing from the use genetic resources.

This event will serve as a unique occasion to present the results of the FfB DSI Investor Group, to share the reflections of the financial sector regarding the value of DSI in economic value chains, and to share key recommendations for policymakers and corporates to support the success of the UN Cali Fund.

The participation of financial institutions, corporates, and policymakers will provide concrete insights on the needs, challenges, and solutions to incentivise the mobilisation of voluntary contributions from DSI-users. Together, these perspectives can build bridges towards the successful implementation of the UN Cali Fund.

OBJECTIVES & DESIRED OUTCOME(S)

  • Showcase the understanding of DSI’s materiality in economic value chains by financial institutions and their interest in fair and equitable benefit-sharing.
  • Generate practical insights and recommendations on incentives for the mobilisation of voluntary contributions from DSI-users.
  • Build understanding on the relations between target 13, 15 (c), and target 19 in the context of the multilateral mechanisms for fair and equitable benefit sharing.
  • Strengthen collaboration and understanding between civil society, including the financial sectors, academia, corporates and policymakers in support of the successful establishment of the UN Cali Fund.

More details on the programme will follow.
