CBD workshop on aligning finance flows

The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is organizing an online workshop with the financial sector on ‘Aligning financial flows with the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework’. It will support the adoption of a Global Biodiversity Framework that can be translated into concrete and practical action by the global financial sector. The workshop will take place on 9 December 2021 (2-4pm CET), as a follow-up to the CBD workshop held on 17 and 18 June 2021.

The financial sector has a critical role to play in addressing the global biodiversity crisis. This is why the CBD Secretariat believes it is fundamental that the financial sector contribute to the development and implementation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.

The first workshop with the financial sector, held on 17 and 18 June 2021, explored how the financial sector could most effectively contribute to the post-2020 global biodiversity framework and its implementation. The Financial Sector Guide for the Convention on Biological Diversity was launched on this occasion as well.

The follow-up workshop on 9 December will provide more information specifically on the concept of aligning financial flows with the objectives of the global biodiversity framework. The sharing of concrete examples and projects supported by public and private financial institutions and key partners will illustrate how ‘aligning finance flows’ can be operationalized. The workshop will link these actions to the needs of Parties in mobilizing resources from all sources, including through biodiversity finance plans, and will also clarify the role of the regulatory and policy framework to provide an enabling environment for the private financial sector to align its flows.
