On the way to the upcoming UN Biodiversity Conference COP16, scheduled for October 2024 in Cali, Colombia, this webinar will delve into the preparations made by governments updating their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM GBF).

Additionally, we’ll facilitate discussions among representatives of financial institutions, exploring how to engage with governments on the GBF implementation and their needs in creating an enabling policy environment to reduce negative impact and increase positive impact on biodiversity through their finance activities and investments.

The webinar will feature a lineup of speakers, each bringing a unique perspective to the table. Anita de Horde, Executive Director of FfB Foundation, will open the session and moderate the discussions. Marco Arlaud, Associate Global Coordinator at UNDP BIOFIN, will deliver a presentation on NBSAPs. Additionally, Franco Alexander Piza Rondon, Director of Corporate Sustainability at Bancolombia Group, Sonya Likthman from Federated Hermes International and Emine Isciel from Storebrand AM, will provide insights from the private finance sector and elaborate on financial institutions’ recommendations for governments and strategies for effective engagement.

The KM GBF, an agreement adopted by 196 parties during the UN Biodiversity Conference COP15 in December 2022, serves as a guiding framework for global action on biodiversity and nature. It outlines a framework for action and policy alignment across economic sectors, with a clear call to align public and private financial flows with its mission of halting and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030.

This webinar is a part of the series ‘We Need to Talk about Biodiversity’, a collaborative effort between Finance for Biodiversity Foundation, UNEP FI, the PRI and the EU Business & Biodiversity Platform
