Join our webinar on Deep-Seabed Mining (DSM): Understanding the Risks and Exploring the Alternatives

The deep sea contains many of the most pristine ecosystems on our planet and plays a crucial role in regulating the climate. Plans to mine this unique and complex area of our planet would create irreversible ecosystem and habitat loss, as well as permanently destroy invaluable carbon storage.
As momentum builds ahead of the 30th session of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) and UNOC 2025, this 45-minute webinar will provide an urgent call to action. It will outline the financial risks of deep-seabed mining (DSM) and what is at stake in terms of ecological integrity and economic transition.
Experts and financial institutions will share insights on how DSM poses systemic risks to portfolios and long-term sustainability goals. The session will also showcase the growing mobilisation of financial institutions calling on governments not to permit deep-seabed mining unless the risks are comprehensively understood and alternatives fully explored.
Reopening the DSM Statement
The webinar will also mark the re-opening of the Finance for Biodiversity Foundation’s Deep-Seabed Mining Statement for Global Financial Institutions, providing an opportunity for financial institutions to reaffirm their commitment to ocean protection and long-term risk management. The Statement is open to signature until 1 July 2025.
