Finance for Biodiversity Pledge reaches the milestone of 100+ signatories

26 July 2022 – The Finance for Biodiversity Pledge reaches the milestone of 103 financial institutions, thanks to 5 new signatories: Green Century, Schroders, SG 29 Haussmann, Société Générale Private Wealth Management, and Velliv Pension & Livsforsikring A/S. The total number of members of the Finance for Biodiversity Foundation increased from 49 to 51 members.

With the new signatory financial institutions, the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge is representing in total over €14,7 trillion in assets held by 103 signatories from 19 countries.

The financial institutions’s support for the Pledge is making biodiversity a highly visible topic in the sector. Moreover, it is generating collaboration and progress to achieve the mission of reversing nature loss by 2030.

Finance for Biodiversity Pledge
The Finance for Biodiversity Pledge is a commitment of financial institutions to protect and restore biodiversity through their finance activities and investments. The Pledge consists of 5 steps financial institutions commit to take:

  1. Collaborating and sharing knowledge
  2. Engaging with companies
  3. Assessing impact
  4. Setting targets
  5. Reporting publicly on the above before 2025

Finance for Biodiversity Foundation
Financial institutions that signed the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge can become members to join the collective action under the working groups of the Finance for Biodiversity Foundation. With this new round of signatories, the total number of members increased from 49 to 51. The members are sharing knowledge and collaborating on topics such as impact assessment, engaging with companies, public policy advocacy and target setting. An additional working group on positive impact will follow next year.

Next round of new signatories in October
The next celebration of new signatories (#8) will be organised during the European Business and Nature Summit on 18 October 2022 in Brussels. This round will be the last stepping stone before the final negotiations on the Global Biodiversity Framework during COP15 in December in Montreal. Financial institutions that sign the Pledge publicly call on global leaders to agree on effective measures to reverse nature loss in this decade to ensure ecosystem resilience. We encourage all financial institutions to sign the Pledge and support this urgent call to action.
